Autoimmune Health and Wellness is very personal for me. As stated in my bio, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in 1998. But the symptoms began for me in 1990, 8 years before my diagnosis. I had constant abdominal pain, joint pain, nausea, diarrhea 6-10 times a day and numerous more symptoms for years. None of my doctors knew what was wrong with me. I’ve had countless yearly colonoscopies which always showed moderate to severe inflammation with strictures (narrowing of the bowel/colon). I went through surgery in 2001 to have part of my small intestines removed. I have been on numerous amounts of medications, injections and infusions but nothing ever helped.

I decided in 2016 that I was done with this cycle of treatments, which never helped, and I stopped all medications. I then researched different ways of eating, which I was always told by my doctors, “what I eat has nothing to do with Crohn’s Disease”. In 2016, It was through my research that I first learned about Autoimmune Paleo Protocol (AIP). After some preparing, I began my AIP journey 1/2/17 and I have been in complete remission since July of 2017. Also, I still have not taken ANY medication since 2016 and have never felt better.

I finally returned to my doctor after 2 years and he performed a colonoscopy. I was told that I’m in complete remission. I had no inflammation and no strictures. Which of course I knew because I don’t have any symptoms, but I wanted him to know that it was the food I was eating that helped heal my colon, he was still in disbelief. My diet is closer to Paleo now and I am happier, healthier and whole due to the nutrient dense whole foods I consume.

I have helped so many people thus far and want to help so many more with their autoimmune disease — therefore, I am proud to have been trained by Mickey Trescott, Angie Alt, and Sarah Ballantyne as a Certified AIP Coach.

What is Autoimmune Disease?

All autoimmune diseases are caused by a betrayal of the immune system. The immune system which is suppose to protect us from invading microorganisms, instead targets normal proteins within our own bodies, treating these fundamental components of our cells with the exact same lethal force as it would a virus, bacteria, or parasite.

Autoimmune Disease affects many organs and systems throughout the body. Here are only a FEW examples:

Brain: Multiple Sclerosis, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Autism

Blood: Leukemia, Lupus Erythematosus

GI: Celiac’s Disease, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Diabetes Type 1

Nerves: Peripheral Neuropathy, Diabetic Neuropathy

Lungs: Sarcoidosis, Wegener’s Granulomatosis

Thyroid: Thyroditis, Hashimoto’s Disease, Graves’ Disease

Muscles: Muscular Dystrophy, Fibromyalgia

Bones: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosis Spondylitis, Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Skin: Psoriasis, Vitiligo, Eczema, Scleroderma

Causes of autoimmune diseases are genetics, environmental triggers, diet and lifestyle. While you can’t do much about your genetic influence and exposure to infections, you can do something about managing your dietary and lifestyle choices as well as limiting exposure to chemicals and toxins.

Vitality, Strength and Healing is what I went through with AIP. I was able to improve my strength and quality of life with the nutrient dense whole foods that healed my body from within.

What is the Autoimmune Protocol? (AIP)

The Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) is an elimination and reintroduction protocol that has been specifically designed to help those with autoimmune disease determine their food allergies and sensitivities, reverse nutrient deficiencies, balance gut flora, and heal their bodies. In a nutshell, it calls for removing foods that are likely to be problematic for people with autoimmune disease, in addition to adding nutrient-dense foods to restore nutrient status. This is known as the Elimination Phase.

Then, when it’s time, we will slowly and systematically reintroduce foods. This will allow you to be able to tell exactly which foods are triggering reactions and then construct a personalized diet. This is the Reintroduction Phase.

Between the two phases is Compliance. This is where the body begins to heal, restore and the symptoms began to diminish.

As an AIP certified coach I am trained to help and assist you in navigating through the Autoimmune Protocol. Initially, I will assist you in evaluating where you are on the autoimmune disease spectrum. Knowledge is empowering, and it's the foundation for beginning your transformation.

The key to living with an autoimmune disease is eating the foods that nourish, support and sustain your body. While trying at all cost to avoid the foods that promote inflammation, intestinal permeability, and nutrient deficiencies. The Autoimmune Protocol provides you with the framework and the tools for living well with an autoimmune condition. It shows you how to manage your disease through diet and lifestyle. By following the protocol, we will systematically figure out the foods that best support your body's healing needs.

Developing a personalized food plan tailored to your needs is only one aspect of the AIP Protocol. During our time together we will also evaluate and troubleshoot other areas that may be impacting your autoimmune health and wellness, namely sleep, stress management, adequate movement, and positive interactions. Using a variety of self-assessment tools, we will put together a lifestyle plan that will optimize your healing journey even further. The plan will be put into place slowly and over time.
